| The Day After The Xmas Feast, Or Any Feast, For Dieters Well, Christmas has been and gone. I got a new shorter belt among my presents to rejoice my thinning waist. However I challenged that a little with calorie intake, and less than normal walking for the day yesterday. Presents as well included a box of candy and a fifth of Scotch, both of which I'll have, however little by little and most importantly, with an accurate recording of the calories on my daily journal. I strictly believe you can have anything you wish, so long as your record the calories. Joan, as usual, produced more food than even our crowd could devour, so the refrigerator is filled with left overs. Some landmines hidden in there with some salad and fruit items which are on the more decent path. Again the key is to eat sensibly and keep count of calories. We allowed a little of a blowout yesterday, and the hormonal response to the feast may have elevated our metabolism which could be an excellent thing, if we close down the consumption today and keep on track at least until New Year's eve. Now a week away is the next event, New Years Eve and day. This might well be a repeat for many folks. That makes the intervening week all the more essential to button down the hatches, and get back on plan. It's also time to begin considering the new year. New Year's resolutions are notorious for getting made and forgotten. That does not mean your resolution should be terminated as unlikely to succeed. It is yours to make, and yours to keep. And you can make it work. Think strategically, about what step or steps you'll take to keep yourself on task. An everyday walking routine, checking calories everyday in a journal, and attending every week support groups have been excellent devices that have helped me. They might be appropriate for you as well. However it is not for me to speak. It is up to you to choose and commit. Use this week to think about this idea in the back of your mind. Think about how you can keep yourself on the right track in whatever you do choose to make a part of your new year. I dropped 75 pounds this past year. (plus or minus) Significant. Well over my how to lose 50 pounds goal. What really happened is that I became much healthier. And that is a good thing. I can't tell you how much better that makes me feel. It has even set the stage for a new optimism that allows me to consider new horizons for the coming year in some other areas of my life. I am not over my battles with my waist, and my frequently failing will power. But I now have had sufficient successes and enough welcome compliments to desire continuous good results. By sharing my success with you, I really hope to keep my battle in the front of my mind, as well as inspire others. If you want to lose 50 pounds or more, realize it'll be a battle. This is not easy, but it is achievable. As I've said and will repeat often, the initial step is deciding to do it. For you who may read this, I hope you decide today to do so, and on New Year's day in your personal way make it formal. Next year is going to be great. Make your resolution to do things though that'll help in attaining your goal, instead of merely losing 50 pounds.
